Nestled in the heart of the Carolinas, Level Grove Market began as a small gathering of local artisans, farmers, and makers with a shared vision: to create a community rooted in sustainability, self-reliance, and the simple joys of handcrafted living. What started as a humble roadside stand in 1978 has grown into a vibrant hub where Appalachian heritage meets modern creativity. Our market is built on the belief that every product has a story—whether it’s a hand-thrown pottery mug, heirloom tomatoes nurtured from seed, or locally sourced honey harvested with care. At Level Grove Market, we celebrate the art of living simply and sustainably, supporting small businesses, nurturing the land, and fostering connections that go beyond transactions. Here, it’s not just about what you buy; it’s about who you meet, what you learn, and the community you help grow.
My dad, Douglas Pone, saw more than just a roadside fruit stand—he saw a gathering place waiting to happen. A dreamer with calloused hands and an ear for music, Dad took what his family had built and, in 1985, transformed it into something greater. With the construction of a large barn, he expanded beyond fresh peaches and tomatoes, inviting the community in for something more—art workshops, music lessons, and a space where creativity could thrive. What started as a simple expansion soon grew into a movement. By 1990, Dad had begun building rustic cabins across the land, welcoming artists, potters, and craftspeople looking for a slower, more intentional way of life.
When Dad passed in 1995, I (Arthur) took the reins, honoring his vision while expanding Level Grove Market into something even greater. We now have a spacious warehouse for artisan workshops, yurts and cabins for overnight stays, and a weekly Farmers Market from spring through summer. Level Grove Market has flourished into a thriving Appalachian ecosystem, where craft, community, and sustainability come together. Today, this land isn’t just a destination—it’s a way of life.
